STATENDAM II

(JUSTICIA)

32,234 gross tons

Statendam II

Built by Harland and Wolff, Belfast, the STATENDAM II was launched on July 9, 1914, but completed in 1917 as the British troopship JUSTICIA (below), under White Star Line management. She was torpedoed on July 19, 1917 by German U-64 and sunk the next day by U-124.

In 1915 the Holland America Line had still hoped to take delivery of the STATENDAM II and used her image on pamphlets, such as the one to the right.
